Project Description

St Patrick’s Special School in Enniscorthy is an innovatively designed specialised school for children with moderate to severe profound GLD's (general learning disability) which services 400 students in the area.

The building itself is modern with an ambitious design that caters to the needs of its students. Specialist design features include dedicated sensory spaces, en-suite toilets in each of the 20 classrooms, clinician facilities, specialist teaching rooms and the installation of a Black Bulb sensor. This super-smart thermostat measures individual room temperatures and self regulates accordingly so as to maximise student comfort. There are also a number of ASD (autism spectrum disorder) rooms within the new building.

With a total area of 5926m2, additional features include two dining areas and a general purpose hall. Special emphasis was placed on student safety and how the building would ‘feel’ for its students in terms of lighting and noise.

To cater for the specialist needs of the students, the school is equipped with a swimming pool, hydrotherapy suites, secure outdoor play areas for ground floor classrooms, and facilities for future life skills. The set down, drop off and collection area is specifically tailored for special needs students being brought to and from school by bus.

While every project is important, GARLAND is especially proud to have contributed to such a momentous and extraordinary development, providing Civil and Structural Engineering and Assigned Certifier services.
