GARLAND Project Features in Open House Limerick 2016

Oct 09, 2016

One of GARLAND's projects, the refurbishment of Limerick Circuit Courthouse was a venue for the 2016 Open House Limerick.  It is Ireland’s longest serving courthouse in continuous use since 1810.   GARLAND acted as civil and structural engineers works undertaken to the building in 2002.  The project included refurbishment of the existing building and the creation of an additional storey to provide office space. Works involved the demolition of the existing roof, ground and first floors, and the construction of a new suspended ground floor, composite steel and concrete two-storey structure, and a cantilevered boardwalk on the quay wall. The new layout featured a glazed well in the atrium and natural ventilation provided by passive ventilation stacks.  The project received a OPUS Restoration & Conservation Award in 2003.
