HSA Figures for Reported Fatal Accidents in 2017

The Health Service Executive reported that there were 47 fatal accidents last year, compared to 46 in 2016.
A breakdown of statistics were included in the report:
- 24 Deaths in the agriculture industry, resulting in the eighth year in a row that this sector has reconded the highest number of work related fatalities.
- 6 Deaths in the construction industry.
- 6 Deaths in the transport industry.
- Vehicle deaths caused 21 fatalities in 2017.
- 6 Deaths from falls at height.
- Dublin & Mayo had the highest fatalities with 6 recorded for each.
- 28 Deaths included 18 - 65 year old males
- 14 Deaths were over 65 year old males in the agricultural sector.
- 1 Death of a child in the agricultural sector.
- Of all 47 reported fatalities, 18 were self-employed, 15 were employees, 7 were non-workers and 7 were family workers.
