Planning permission granted for Kildare Proton Hospital
Dec 03, 2018
Kildare County Council have granted planning permission for the development of the multi-million euro state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility at the former Magee Barracks while has been dormitory for 20 years.
The proton clinic, which is expected to generate around 100 jobs will be the first of its kind in Ireland and will serve both the Republic of Ireland and the North. The treatment it will provide will be best suited for paediatric cancers as it will cause less damage to the surrounding tissues.
Garland are providing Civil & Structural Engineering services for this project which will see several army buildings and concrete slabs demolished to be replaced by the 3,555sqm Clinic, in a site area of approximately 2.5 hectares. Traffic lights will be replaced at its entrance on Hospital Street, and new pedestrian crossings and upgrades to footpaths will be carried out. 80 car parking spaces along with cycle parking zones are also planned for the development. It will also feature a variety of gardens.
