Online Tool to Reduce Construction Emissions

A new online tool called the Carbon Designer for Ireland Tool was launched in 2021 to allow designers to quickly assess and visualize the emissions linked to different types of construction techniques and materials, addressing the issue of carbon emissions associated with manufacturing, transporting and construction building materials.

The Tool is suitable to estimate the carbon impact of a project at early stages and encourages designers to consider carbon optimization. It also shows the differences that can be made by selecting different material buildups of walls, floors and roofs.

Basic information such as gross floor area and number of storeys along with building materials is needed to use the Tool and the carbon impacts of each element are updated in real time, there is also the ability to create reports and bar charts.
