Pilot Scheme for Construction Recycling

Mar 09, 2022

The Irish Construction Industry accounts for up to 48% of Irish waste (6.2 million tonnes) so a pilot scheme has been established to divert waste from landfill, incineration and downcycling.

Based on a successful model from the Netherlands, the Construction Materials Exchange (CMEx) Project is a pilot scheme for the reuse of construction materials that would normally end up as a waste.

The project will identify materials from the waste streams which have the potential to be reused through an online platform. Another feature of the project is digital material passports which list the ‘ingredients’ of a building.

This project is funded by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications, Circular Economy Innovation grant scheme.
