Moving Forward with Net Pledge Zero

Jul 07, 2022

At the end of 2021, GARLAND took the ACEI Pledge to Net Zero. This Pledge was established to commit organisations from the built environment sector to take a leadership role in the transition to a Net Zero carbon economy.

Since then, we have been working on setting our science-based target as part of this commitment. This has involved selecting a baseline year from which to compare out target against and aligning this target with a 1.5 degree centigrade climate change scenario.

We selected the year 2019, which was the last full year before the normal work life was interrupted by the Covid 19 Pandemic. Reviewing all energy bills generated in each of our three offices in this year, as well as expenses claims, overseas travel and other emissions generating activities we calculated the volume of carbon generated by GARLAND in 2019. We have now set our target against this, which has been accepted by the Pledge to Net Zero organisation, SocEnv. This is a huge step for GARLAND as we begin our journey towards a Net Zero carbon economy. We look forward to updating you on this journey over the coming weeks, months, and years.
