ACEI Pledge to Net Zero - Commuting Research

Jun 16, 2025

The Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) is advocating that all member firms commit to achieving operational Net Zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030.

As an ACEI member, GARLAND has pledged to reach Net Zero by 2030. As part of this commitment, GARLAND evaluates and reports its carbon emissions annually. A key component of our direct emissions is the daily or bi-weekly commuting of employees to and from our offices. The transportation choices made by our employees have a direct impact on GARLAND’s carbon footprint and overall environmental performance.

Commuting is not only a logistical necessity—it’s also an environmental concern. Employee transportation choices influence air quality, carbon emissions, and broader sustainability outcomes. Whether commuting by car, public transport, bicycle, on foot, carpooling, or working remotely, each option carries a different environmental impact. Promoting greener commuting practices within the company is a critical step toward achieving our sustainability goals.

This research and report outcome  assess the commuting habits of GARLAND’s workforce, not just for data collection, but as a core component of our Net Zero strategy. By gaining a clearer understanding of current behaviors, we can identify practical opportunities to support and encourage low-carbon commuting. In doing so, GARLAND not only reduces its carbon footprint but also fosters a workplace culture rooted in environmental responsibility and leadership by example.
