Project Description
Garland were appointed to plan and manage the delivery of a brand new, three-storey building on a high profile site at the entrance to the University of Ireland, Galway. The building includes a 160 seat Lecture Theatre, an 80 place Teaching Lab, and several post-grad research laboratories with associated Write-Up Areas, and a large (50 person) Meeting Room.
A tight budget posed a challenge for the delivery of all the required accommodation to the standard of finish required. Several options were explored and the final solution of long span steel frame, composite cellar beams and metal decking incorporated the services zone within the structural zone. The adjacent canal was a protected structure.
