Project Description
The project (final construction value approx. €7 million) involved the construction of a new school building with a total floor area of 2,990m2 over 3 no. split level storeys on a restricted greenfield site to the rear of the existing Boys National School; followed by the demolition of the old school building and the construction of a new entrance, car park and set down area.
The new accommodation comprises of 16 no. classrooms, 6 no. resource and learning support rooms, special education rooms and a specifically designed autistic unit. The school also hosts a large sports hall with an upstairs viewing area. The sports hall design incorporates a tower that accommodates 2 no. water tanks with one storing harvested rain water used to serve the school.
The works were completed on a phased basis to allow the existing school on the site to remain operational during the work.
Garland provided Civil & Structural Engineering Services and acted as Assigned Certifier.
