From extending the accident and emergency department to refurbishing wards, Garland has been working with St James’s Hospital since the 1950s. In 1975 the hospital launched a phased rebuilding programme to replace most of the buildings on the 60-acre campus. To date some 55,000m2 of new buildings have been provided out of the 130,000m2 total building stock. We worked with the hospital to support the development of new buildings including: 

  • Phase 1A New entrances, Communications Centre, Service Ring Mains, Road layout
  • Phase 1B New Energy Centre & Ambulance Control Centre
  • Phase 1C Main Hospital containing 3 ward blocks of 93 beds each; 20 Burns Beds; 22 ICU beds; Main diagnostic and treatment facilities i.e. X-ray, OPD, A & E, Operating Theatres, etc.; Psychiatric Unit; Geriatric Day Unit.
  • Phase 1F Bone Marrow Transplant & Oncology Unit and Subsequent Extension
  • Phase 1G Private Ward Block
  • Cardiac Surgery Block
  • Hospital 1 Pet CT Refurbishment
  • Hospital 7 Ward Refurbishment
  • James Street Steel Staff Car Park
  • Road Resurfacing
  • Various iterations of the Development Control Plan
