Project Description
St. Joseph’s Intellectual Disability Unit is constructed in the grounds of St. Ita’s Hospital, Portrane and consists of a daycare unit, a challenging behaviour day care unit and 10 No. residential units with a 50 bed capacity. The construction generally comprises masonry walls and steel stanchion supports, a concrete flat roof and steel supported insulated cladding panels to pitched roofs. The development includes an access roadway from the Portrane Road and an internal estate roadway network. The surface water drainage is discharged to an existing sea outfall on the south east side of the Portrane Road 650m from the site.
Garland were appointed to provide full civil and structural engineering services for the development. We carried out initial appraisals together with arranging site investigations of the proposed site at pre planning stage. The planning process was protracted and required continuous liaison with Fingal Co. Council to ensure the viability of the project. Garland liaised directly with Fingal Co. Council Drainage Dept. in designing the suitable route and connection to the existing sea outfall at PortraneBeach. This in turn required continuous liaison with the Roads Department of Fingal Co. Council and the Planning Department. During the construction phase, Garland attended the Design Team & Client Meetings on site.
