Project Description

The project initially involved the construction of new clean room, canteen and office facilities with a separate central utilities (CUB) building totalling 29,400m2 for the Clonmel plant of Guidant Ireland which Garland originally designed for Digital in 1982. Guidant was purchased by Boston Scientific and one of the production lines was sold to Abbott Vascular. Garland were subsequently employed to design a new landmark office and warehouse facility for Abbott on the site.

Full Civil and Structural Engineering services were provided including the design of a semi-basement plantroom, four storey production facility using structural steel frames, metal deck, insitu concrete infill floors and steel cladding. The foundations were piled and a 10m × 12m structural grid was used. As part of the separation project 2 fully separate trade effluent systems and monitoring status were installed.
