Project Description

Garland was appointed in 2001 to act as supervisor’s representative on a contract for the reconstruction of the Kabwe-Kapiri Mposhi and Chisamba Roads. The contract consisted of the rehabilitation of a total of 82km of road together with miscellaneous associated works. The 62km long Kabwe-Kapiri Mposhi section comprised of the construction of a new pavement over a carriageway width of 6.90m with 1.90m wide hard shoulders each side. The pavement specification for the main carriageway is 50mm asphalt wearing course on a 150mm crushed stone base on 200mm sub-base over the existing road. The hard shoulders consist of a double surface dressing on 150mm crushed stone base on 350mm sub-base.

For the 20km long Chisamba section, the repairs comprised of the construction of a new pavement consisting of a double surface dressing on a 200mm cement stabilised base on 150mm sub-base on 300mm sub-grade. The carriageway is 6.10m wide with 1.95m wide hard shoulders on each side.
