Project Description
This project for South Dublin County Council provided a third, 2160 capacity stand for the stadium for Shamrock Rover’s football club. This stand is constructed from precast concrete rafters with structural steel bracing and purlins support a metal deck roof to match the existing stands. A structural steel television gantry is hung from rafters. Perimeter works included a new south entrance, toilet/concession areas below the stand and reinstatement of external paving.
GARLAND provided civil & structural engineering services for this project, which included the detailed design of the precast concrete (PCC) foundations and all steelwork plus associated connections. The project was on a very tight timescale in order to be completed for the upcoming football season. It necessitated intensive collaboration with the PCC subcontractor and the architect regarding the required Revit models, as well as close cooperation with the precast concrete manufacturer to ensure the design was suitable for the lateral stability of the stand and the interface between stand and foundations. To be suitable for the conditions on site and the tight timescale, large pad PCC foundations were chosen.
